The month of Ramadan, 2022, has come to a close. If you aren’t familiar, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.
We had the opportunity to learn more about Ramadan this month, as Ali A, Tundra’s Inside Technical Sales Representative, observes Ramadan, and was kind enough to teach us what it meant to him.
Ali explains Ramadan as “A holy month when Muslims around the world abstain from eating or drinking from dawn until sunset for 30 days, as well as use this month for spiritual reflection, prayer, doing good deeds, and spending time with family and friends.”
6 of Ali’s teammates decided to join him for a day of fasting to show their support, and in turn, Ali treated them each to a steak dinner as a token of his appreciation.
Here is what Ali’s team had to say about their experience:
“It is cliché, but you don’t really miss something until you can’t have it anymore. Something as simple as not being able to drink water for the day was difficult”. – Leah
“This made me realize how much of my food, water, and coffee intake is purely habitual! The hardest part was curbing that snap reflex to grab a snack or a coffee – especially in the afternoon when you start to feel energy levels dropping. Although it was only 1 day, it was eye-opening. I can appreciate the control and discipline that’s required to do it for a full month. It would be even more difficult if you’re the only one in an office observing Ramadan, so hopefully, this helped show Ali that we’re all a team.” – Anders
Ali appreciated their support and said, “it means a lot that my amazing colleagues offered to join me for a day of Ramadan and experience what it’s like to fast for a day”.
Thank you to Ali, for sharing this special tradition with us, and congratulations to this team for living Tundra’s Core Value of #TeamWork!
